Widget

A Website Widget is a tool that allows you to display static content (HTML) along with dynamic content for your site.  In the Paws 'N Claws site, the Navigation Page "Financial Statements" contains several Document Widgets: Salaries, Budgets, and Monthly Meetings.

During our initial consultation with your organization, we will determine if you have a need for displaying dynamic content and add the appropriate Widgets.  For example, if you are a township, you may want to display the Clerks' minutes or yearly Budgets.  Instead of continually uploading documents and linking to them individually via the Page Editor, you can simply use a "Minutes" Widget or "Budgets" Widget which will display the content dynamically to the user in an easily accessible format.

Widgets are found under Site Widgets link in the Administration Menu.

You can filter by category or document year by selecting the appropriate pull-down and clicking "Filter".  To Add a Document for the Documents Widget, click the "Add Document" link.  You can preview a Document by clicking the link under the "View" column, edit a Document by clicking the "Edit Document" link, and delete a Document by clicking the "Delete" link.

Adding/Editing Documents

If you Add a Document or Edit a Document, the following information will be available to you:

Category
A pull-down containing all categories for your Website.  In the case of Paws 'N Claws, this will be Minutes, Budgets, and Salaries.

File (pdf)

The file from your computer or network you wish to upload.

Document Date

The year (yyyy), or year/month (yyyy/mm) of the document.  During our initial consultation we will determine whether the category posts a document yearly or monthly.  The calendar button will display either a year or a series of months for you to select, depending on the category.

Document Link Text

The text that a website user will see for your document link.  They will default to an appropriate value depending on the category.  For the Paws 'N Claws Minutes Category we have chosen to say "View Meeting Minutes" for the link text.  This will be apparent as to why shortly.  For Budgets and Salaries, we are displaying the year and then the appropriate text based on the category.

What Website Users See

When you add a Document Widget to a page via the Page Editor, your Website Users will see the rendered output of the Widget.  For the Paws 'N Claws website, Salaries and Budgets are yearly documents (posted only yearly), whereas Monthly Meetings are posted monthly.

For each Salary and Budget Document, the Document Link Text displays, allowing the user to click and download the Document.  For readability, WebBuilder will show each row in alternating colors.

The Monthly Meetings contains a pull-down list for the year, allowing the user to select the year they want to see.  Since WebBuilder knows that the Document Widget is displayed monthly, it will display the pull-down for the year, a column for the Month, a column for the Year, and the Document Link Text that was entered for the Document.
